Cristiano Ronaldo nominated for FIFPro Players’ Award


Cristiano Ronaldo the attacker of Man. Utd. is among the 55 players shortlisted for the FIFPro Players’ Award

Among the nominees for the award won last year by Brazilian player Ronaldinho, there are… Ronaldinho, Kaka, Didier Drogba, Thierry Henry, Materazzi, Cannavaro, Buffon, Gattuso, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Beckham, Rooney, Eto’o, Ibrahimovici, Messi, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Berbatov.

With 11 nominees, Italy is the country with the most numerous candidate players, followed by England (9), Brazil (70 and Spain (6). With nine players, AC Milan is the team with the most numerous players picked as nominees for the award (Ronaldo was counted for both AC Milan and real Madrid), followed by Chelsea and Barcelona with eight players each. Next come Real Madrid (6) and Manchester United (5).

Ronaldinho won last year’s FIFPro Players’ Award. The ideal team of the season 2005-2006 was as follows: Buffon (goalkeeper) – Thuram, Cannavaro, Terry, Zambrotta (defenders) – Pirlo, Zidane, Kaka (midfielders – Eto’o, Henry and Ronaldinho (forwards). While Ballon d’or (French for Golden Globe) is awarded following the vote by correspondents of French sports magazine France Football, and the winner of the FIFA trophy, by coaches, the winner FIFPro Award is voted by the 45,000 players affiliated with the association.
